Tips on How to Make Your Hotel Stay Feel Like A Home-Away-From-Home By Dorthy Weatherbush

As a frequent traveler, I have found several ways of making that standard room feel more like home when you are away. Strange places can always make you feel a little sad or homesick. These few tips are merely suggestions I have found that work best in my own experiences.
I first find out the Location of the Hotel and what amenities they offer. If I know that I will be staying in a room with a King size bed, I will often pack my own sheets from home that I enjoy sleeping on the most. Sheets pack flat and easily in any luggage or suitcase.
You may also want to bring along some of your favorite scented candles or plug-in room scented devices. It gives the room a personal touch and lets you enjoy the wonderful aroma when you walk in from a day’s trip and relaxes you for the rest of evening.
Another is pictures of your loved ones. Bring along some small photos of your loved ones and scatter them throughout your room to make it feel more like home. Again, these types of accessories fit nicely in your luggage. I would not suggest bringing any that are encased in a glass frame.
If you are traveling with children, bringing their favorite toys are always a wise choice. This way, they don’t find themselves getting bored and into mischief. Even bring some of their favorite movies and play them on your laptop or a portable DVD player.
Blankets and Pillows can be added as well. These are items that you can carry for the duration of your journey. If soiled or stained during transportation, see if the hotel has a laundry service or a laundry room.
Depending on the type of hotel room you will be staying in, some of them offer kitchenettes. They are often recommended when traveling for long periods of time. I have found that I will bring my favorite Coffee and teas, also my favorite spices I like to use at home for cooking.
Also, I will pack fabric sheet softeners. They are great for keeping the inside of your luggage smelling fresh. You can use them to rub down any bedding or towels to give them that at-home smell. Again, you can use them if you need to launder any soiled clothing or accessories you’ve brought along.
Music is another way of making your hotel room feel more like home. Bring along a device that can play or download your favorite music such as a laptop or a plug-in mp3 player. I have also packed a small speaker system for long trips.
Bring along some of your favorite movies from home or you can rent some at a local movie rental location. Check with the hotel to see if the TV system in your room has the adapters to plug in from your device, or if they offer DVD players in the room.
There is nothing like sitting back and relaxing with the scents of home, pictures you have of your loved ones, your favorite pillow and blanket, sipping a cup of tea and watching a movie you really enjoy.
